People Need People

Life does present challenges that tax us to no end.
When bad things happen, and they often do,
that is when we need a friend.

Do you remember when someone encouraged you-
Perhaps when you were feeling low?
It helps to share your burden.
There is strength in numbers, you know.

Relate to people.
Call, text, or write a letter.
Just knowing someone cares
will make them feel much better.

Caring needn’t be costly-
Amazing what a smile can do.
It’s the best face lift in town,
and warms the heart of another, too.

Gorgeous Inside

It’s actually a rather nondescript house,
plain, and is easy to ignore.
It sits on a busy thoroughfare
that I pass when on my way to the store.

But as I drove past the other day
I noticed a “For Sale” sign in the yard.
Attached to the sign was a smaller notice
that happily announced: “I’m gorgeous inside”.

Now I have to confess that intrigued me.
What could make this otherwise forgettable
house gorgeous inside?
It also made me wonder,
could that sign be applied to us
as followers of Jesus? The One in whom
we safely abide?

What does the Bible say about inner beauty?
Romans 7:22 says, “In my inner being I delight
in God’s laws.
In Romans 8:6 Paul speaks of
a Spirit controlled
mind that is characterized by “life and peace”.

And in Galations, we see that letting the spirit
take charge of our inner being will build in us
the fruit of the spirit, a beautiful array of qualities
such as love, joy, peace, patience and kindness.
“Delighting in scripture and allowing the Spirit
to work in our heart will make us look good on the inside-
and will pay off in a life that honors God.”
Dave Brown

Righteousness in your heart produces beauty
in your character.

The Art of Stillness

Nature has a voice-
Just listen—truly listen!
But to truly listen,
You must be still.

Stillness is important to your life.
It will set you free from tension,
and will set you free from strife.

A farmer remarked he never looked up
until his barn burned down.
He was amazed by the beauty of nature
when he finally looked around.

Treasure your “alone time”
That is when you plan and reason.
Get in tune with God and nature,
regardless of the season.

In Good Hands

The phrase, “In Good Hands”
is meant to mean “competency, safety, or care”.
Since the 1300s, seven centuries later,
we hear the words everywhere.

Even in a popular song,
“He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”,
and in an insurance company’s slogan,
“With “us” You’re in good hands”.

As good as the hands of highly skilled people are,
can they compare with the hands of God
in terms of comfort, skill, or safety?
(God doesn’t have hands, of course,
but “the hand of God” is mentioned
fifteen times in scripture, usually
as a reference to His power and authority.)

Isn’t that what we hope for
when we are in a difficult circumstance?
Don’t we want someone with power and authority
to step in and meet our need?

That is likely what Peter had in mind
when he wrote that “we should cast all our cares
upon God since God cares for us. (1 Peter 5:7).

I am going to put my hand in the hand
of the Man who stilled the waters,
and I’m going to look to Him who calmed the sea.
I’m going to trust the One who took my sins upon Himself
And laid down His life for you and me.

Painted buntings come for lunch

Four pair, an intrepid bunch

Flitting in and out all day

Purple, orange, red, blue, hurray.

Female bunting quiet green

Among the leaves, cannot be seen.

Super Glue

To me, love is the super glue
that bonds people together.
It’s a bond that doesn’t weaken,
regardless of the weather.

In a more practical sense,
the strongest glue in the world is not found in a store.
Dive into the ocean, instead-
and explore the ocean floor.

Barnacles and mussels fasten themselves to
boats, piers, and rocks.

FACTS:
Many shellfish secrete a protein that allows them
to firmly cling to any surface, even in salt water.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology are currently studying shellfish in an
attempt to develop a stronger kind of waterproof glue
that can be used in ship repairs and even with
surgical incisions.

For an even stronger kind of glue, dive into the Bible
and study the subject of love. The apostle Paul said
that nothing can separate us from God’s love and that God
has shed abroad His love in our hearts Romans 8:39.
According to Colossians 2:2 our hearts are “knit together
in love”,

Sonya’s Ferret

My Take

DiVoran White Ferret

Me:
What is this creature here?
An ermine–Could it be?
He’s Snowflake, a ferret.
He’s looking now at me.

Sonya:
Stoop down there and pet him.
I wash him in the sink.
He gets a lot of baths,
So he will never stink.

Me:
Oh, but will he hurt me?
My hand goes to the floor.
He rushes it to tease,
But, I start for the door.

Sonya:
He never wants to play
With people who come here.
Do not be alarmed now,
He thinks you are a dear.

Me:
Oh, I am so honored.
I’m starting to unbend.
I never really thought
I’d have a ferret friend.

IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU!

I discovered something this week in dealing with my grief over losing my sweet little animal friends to such a painful death. I had accepted it with my head, but little things kept popping up all week that tore at my heartstrings.

Pepper, a sweet little black and while, always met me in the driveway when I came home from shopping. She knew that I had cat treats in my shopping bags that I would reward her with. There was such a void in my life this week it was painful. The irony of it is evidenced in my poem this week.

God loves you because of who God is,
Not because of anything you did, or didn’t do.
He has given me such a peace this week
that surpasses all I ever knew.

Life does present its challenges,
Of this we are all aware.
But the Lord is there throughout it all
to comfort through our despair.

Seeing past the pain of the present
is a recommended state of mind..
God lifts us up above our circumstances,
and gives us vision of a special kind.

Are you going through a rough place?
Don’t give up in despair.
Look to Him who created you.
His presence is always there.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,

with thanksgiving, let your request be known unto God,

and the peace that passes all understanding will keep your heart

and mind in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”  Philippians 4:6

She Didn’t Deserve to Die

Charlene had a sweet disposition.

She was the first to greet me when I opened the door.

One of five of my outdoor cats,

I have to confess, I adore.

They were born during ” Hurricane Charley”

“Charley’s Angels” to me.

Bonded in love from the start,

They were a very close family.

When I looked out of my kitchen window last Friday,

my heart was disturbed to no end.

Charlene was crying out in pain,

seeking help from a friend.

I went out to comfort her,

unaware of the nature of it all.

My son helped take her to the Animal Clinic

where I leraned, to my appall,

She had been poisoned,

By who, or what is a mystery-

but my heart has been saddened

by such a catastrophe..

She is buried in my back yard,

under the shade of a tree-

always to be remembered

for the joy she gave to me.

P.S.  It would be hard to forget that she died on Good Friday.
