When Does One Get Old?

20 Mar

I woke up in the morning,

mind refreshed and full of hope.

There is so much I want to do-

all within my scope.

My spirit is willing, my mind alert-

I’ll spring right out of bed.

My mind is saying, “Go Girl”-

but my back says “Whoa”, instead.

Ego!  Yes, ego is the culprit

in this aging game we play.

I don’t mind saying “I”m 86”,

But “getting old?”  No way! “,

The Promise

When we wake up in the morning

there is promise in the air.

We don’t know what the day will bring,

but the expectancy is there.

The time to be happy is now.

We have this day to explore.

Every day is a special occasion-

What are you waiting for?

“This is the day that the Lord has made.

We will rejoice and be glad in it.”

Psalm 118:24

Live in the Sunshine

Life does present its problems,

Skies are not always blue-

But when you turn your eyes to the Savior,

He will always see you through.

In times of suffering we must make sanctified

choices to walk in the light;

We have to mind our attitude by minding our thoughts

and trust God to make it right.

Keep the sunshine in your mind.

Our thoughts control our emotions.

Problems seem to solve themselves

when you take time for morning devotions.

Life Is But A Minute

When asked, “What is the greatest surprise

you have found about life?” Your response

will be, “The brevity of it”

I have lived to a ripe old age, but my

emotions are not ruled by a calendar page.

I am moved to tears by poignant moments in time.

I weep when others weep.

Laugh when others laugh.-

without reason or rhyme.

Yes, life is but a minute.

but eternity is in it…

Keep looking up, dear friend.

Christ is waiting at the cross for you.

His dearest desire is to communicate with you.

Life on earth is not the end.

John 9:4

“I must work the work of Him who sent me

while it is day. The night cometh when no

man can work.

Knocked Down, But for Good Reason

From My Heart

My maternal instinct is to protect and nurture the young.

A new-born is so defenseless, you’ll agree.

So when I read an account of a newborn giraffe,

it disturbed the “mother” in me.

The giraffe is strange and homely creature in appearance,

and his movements are awkward and peculiar to see.

Giraffe child-birthing is so strange and so bizarre-

Why it is so is a mystery to me.

Gary Richmond wrote an article on giraffe calves

that caught my attention.

It offended my maternal instincts, to be true.

Allow me to share what little I know.

Let’s see how it resonates with you.

Gary had been invited to a zoo where a native giraffe

was about to give birth.  The anticipated moment was

not a disappointment.  A calf, a plucky male hurled forth,

falling ten feet and landing on its back. The mother giraffe

gives birth to its young standing up, and the distance from

the birth canal to the ground is about ten feet.

Are you still reading?  Think of this. Ten foot is about the

height for dunking a basketball, plus about four extra inches

So the calf falls out of its mother ten feet above ground

and landed on its back.  It lay there a few moments and

then, according to the story, it scrambled over to get its

legs underneath so that it could take a look around and

check out the world it had just entered.

The mother lowered her head to see the baby, then

she moved until she was directly above the calf.

About a minute passed and then came a shocking surprise.

The mother moved her great long leg outward and booted

her baby through the air.  The calf sprawled head over heels

across the ground puzzled and protesting.

The zoologist explained, “She wants him to get up-

and if he doesn’t get up, she is going to do it again.”

Sure enough, the process was repeated again and again.

And the struggle to rise was momentous. And as the baby

grew tired of trying, the mother would again stimulate its

effort with a hearty kick.

Amidst the cheers of the animal staff the calf stood up

and for the first time, wobbly to be sure, but there it stood

on its wobbly legs.  They were struck silent when the

mother knocked it off its feet again.

“To remember how it got up”. Doesn’t God nurture us

in just the same rough way sometimes?  And if we are

ignorant as to His methods and purposes, the actions can

seem cold and even cruel..

We finally struggle to our feet, and it seems we are kicked again.

But our Heavenly Father knows that love must be tough-

and it must take the long view.  God knows the world will

fall apart and we must be sturdy ourselves to stay on our feet.

Life has thrown us a curve, and it’s a hard thing for us

to cope with.  Even so Lord…praise Your blessed name.

The Red Light Will Change~Be Patient

We suffer when we are not in control.

It affects our very being.

“Lord, I really wanted a sunny day,

but fog is all I am seeing”

We are prone to create our own little world.

The old “normal” has to fall apart.

“We can’t go forward, Lord,

unless we have a change of heart.”

Accept the present moment.

Be patient, the red light will change.

God uses those “waiting moments”-

Our circumstances He will arrange.

Religion is one of the safest places

to hide from God.

Ego wants to be in control.

Forget about rituals and man made rules.

Make communing with God your goal.

How comforting to know

God doesn’t love you because you are good,

God loves you because God is good.

That’s why I love Him so.

Broken, But Beautiful

Have you ever seen a collection of sea glass,

also known as beach glass? The varied bits of

colored glass are sometimes pieces of pottery,

but often are pieces of shattered glass bottles.

Originally the glass had a purpose, but then,it

was casually thrown away and became broken.

Our lives are like that. Unexpected events

present challenges, often taxing our emotions

or causing physical pain or injury.

The Great Creator is always busy molding

our character.  He truly wants the best for you and me.

He introduces challenges to prepare us for eternity.

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.

Only through experiences of trial and suffering

can the soul be strengthened., vision cleared,

ambition inspired and success achieved.”

Helen Keller

Two Are Better Than One

People need people.

It was imbedded in our soul..

Make reaching out to others

your foremost God-given role.

So simple, so painfully simple.

Two are better than one.

Two are more effective,

and,oh, so much more fun.

Friendships blossom over shared labor.

And we accomplish much more that way.

Open your heart to another.

See how it brightens your day.

Two are better than one for walking.

For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.

But woe to him who is alone when he falls,

for he has no one to help him up. Ecclesiastes 4:20

Two are better than one for working.

Two are better than one, because they have a good

reward for their labor.Ecclesiastes 4:9

A Servant’s Heart

The true spirit of Christmas is one of giving.

To give of yourself is the greatest gift of all.

To follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

we learn to develop a servant’s heart

in answer to our Savior’s call.

Jesus welcomes, “Come, follow Me.

I will make you a fisher of men,”

“Oh, yes, dear Lord, I want to follow you.

Life on earth is not he end!

The three Marys who served

The three most prominent women in the gospels

were all named Mary. The first was Mary of Nazareth.

God chose her to raise Jesus because of her servant’s

heart.

“For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;

for behold, “henceforth, all generations will call me blessed,”

The second was Mary of Bethany. She was His student.

Whenever she appeared in the gospels, she was at

the feet of Jesus.

The third was Mary of Magdala. Though successful in

business, she had deep spiritual needs in her life.

Jesus freed her from demons, saved her, and she

became His zealous supporter. She supported His

ministry from her own resources, according to Luke 8:1-3.

Life is Just a Minute

Just a tiny  little minute,

but eternity is in it..

The Great Creator.

the Great “I Am”,

knows exclusively

who I am.

Dear Lord, You are our reason for living.

You have put purpose in our life-

The desire for loving and giving.

Help us to maximize our morning,

to have a standing appointment with you.

Lead us into paths of righteousness,

so that to ourselves we will always be true.

There is power in plodding.

Work persistently in small increments.

As we age, to yourself be kinder.

There will be less cause for laments.

“Do not have your concert first,

and then string your instruments afterwards.

Begin the day with the word of God and prayer,

and get first of all into harmony with Him,”

Missionary J Hudson Taylor
