Reflections of the Heart: Somewhere

Somewhere there is a place for me

A place I have a need to be.

A new plateau, a goal to meet-

Purpose, direction, without defeat.

Oh, God, give me strength to greet each day

With a cheerful countenance, don’t let me sway.

Please let me focus on the issues of life

That bring joy to others-

to relieve their strife.

To have victory over the enemy called Fear-

the energy and stamina to persevere.

Reflections of the Heart: The Trade-Off

FEBRUARY 3, 2007

Pigeons are not on my list of favorite creatures-

They destroy my peace of mind.

The feeder in my yard was dwarfed by pigeons of every kind.

They came each day and flapped their wings

as they fought for a position.

The feedeer was too small, you see,

which affected their disposition.

My patio used to be a placeof quietness and contentment

Until the pigeons came in droves

and filled me with resentment.

“Lord”, I cried, “I need your help.

I cannot stand their spats.”

The Lord obliged, to my chagrin

and sent, instead, eight cats.

No squirrels, no birds, they fled in fear-

The cats, you see, do domineer.

Now you find no pigeons on Chipola.

God sent them all to Lake Eola!

A Servant’s Heart

25 Dec

Louise Gibson posted this last year at Christmas. This year, she is having some health issues, so I am reposting this lovely poem for Christmas~Onisha

All of us here on Old Things R New wish you a very happy Christmas, spent with people you love, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.

The true spirit of Christmas is one of giving.

To give of yourself is the greatest gift of all.

To follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

we learn to develop a servant’s heart

in answer to our Savior’s call.

Jesus welcomes, “Come, follow Me.

I will make you a fisher of men,”

“Oh, yes, dear Lord, I want to follow you.

Life on earth is not he end!

The three Marys who served

The three most prominent women in the gospels

were all named Mary. The first was Mary of Nazareth.

God chose her to raise Jesus because of her servant’s

heart.

“For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;

for behold, “henceforth, all generations will call me blessed,”

The second was Mary of Bethany. She was His student.

Whenever she appeared in the gospels, she was at

the feet of Jesus.

The third was Mary of Magdala. Though successful in

business, she had deep spiritual needs in her life.

Jesus freed her from demons, saved her, and she

became His zealous supporter. She supported His

ministry from her own resources, according to Luke 8:1-3.

So, Why Should I be Thankful

A thankful heart causes us to look upward.
It causes us to look around,
and causes us to look within
where the peace of God is found.

The number one secret to happiness
is a grateful heart.
Beginning our day with a prayer of gratitude
brings tranquility from the start.

Fear is the father of failure-
a negative emotion, to be sure.
Replace it with a positive thought.
Failure you will no longer endure.

“When we choose not to focus on
what is missing from our life,
but are grateful for the abundance that
is present, we experience Heaven on earth.”
Author unknown.

Say That AGAIN!??

Too wise you be.
I see you are
too wise for me.

How OLD Would You Be If You Didn’t Know How Old You Are?

How OLD Would You Be

If You Didn’t Know How Old You Are?

I’d be old enough to know
that I should feed my spirit-
So my heart never wrinkles,
nourished by the thoughts within it.

No longer reminded of a chronological age,
I would not be bound by a calendar page.
I would let the young woman within have free reign.
Who knows what positive things I would gain.

Oh, I had better hurry.
I don’t want to be late,
You see, I have a very important date.

P.S.

Nothing strenuous, most things are “nix”.
My back reminds me I am 86!

I have learned to enjoy the little things-
there are so many of them.

I thank God for His blessings-
waking up each morning is one.
There is so much promise in the air,
So many victories to be won.

It is all age-related.
What is your expectancy?
To pass all the “tests” of the day-
Whatever they may be?

We all face challenges
that tax our existence-
but one must persevere
in spite of their persistence.

Hold on to your values-
Stand up for what you believe.
If God is at the forefront,
He will help you to achieve.

(Quote:}
“Enjoy the little things,
for one day you may look back
and realize they were the big things.”
Robert Brauilt

I first posted these thoughts on 8/31/2013
and I still feel they are relevant to today.

Looking Up

11 Sep

From the Heart

Life presents many challenges from birth to the grave,
But lift your thoughts to God above
He promises to save.

God fashioned us in our mother’s womb,
so I am certain He had a plan.
We were designed in His own image
to serve our fellow man.

When I was a child, I thought as a child-
striving always to please.
It took a lot of challenges
to set my heart at ease.

My heartfelt wish, as I was growing up
was to be a caring soul.
I desired all humanity
to make loving others their goal.

I know it is unrealistic
to expect Heaven here on earth-
But wouldn’t it be wonderful
if every soul felt its worth?

Reach out and “touch someone”-
A word of encouragement, or a smile will do.
Your kindness will be rewarded-
It will all come back to you.

Are you in love? Let me count the ways.

” Agape” is self-sacrificing-
You lay down your life for your brother.
“Romantic” is emotional.
Your heart is filled with affection for another.

When you love you don’t try to keep score.
You give of yourself freely-
especially to those you adore.

A good way to have arguments
is to fight fair.
” Help me to see what I am not seeing”
It will quickly clear the air.

Love is inspiring-
It brings out the best in you.
Devotion and sacrifice will follow.
“To thine own self be true”.

Love is the most powerful emotion in the world.
Love is the most powerful emotion in life.
If all of God’s creation would lay down their arms
It would put an end to world strife.

I Corinthians 13:4-13 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil, does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away, For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child, but when I became a man I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I am known.Ā And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
