Mindfulness

From the Heart

Mindfulness is being aware of this moment.
Listen to your heart.
Your life matters.
Live it fully from the start.

Water the seed of optimism.
Have a love affair with life.
Think positive thoughts
and you will drive away the strife.

How will being mindful
help you with your pain?
Being aware of God’s presence
will bring peace to your heart again.

Procrastination

From the Heart

Today is the “tomorrow” that I thought about yesterday.
Then why is it said, “Tomorrow never comes”.
when it came today?

I have so much to do today,
I’ll have to think this through.
If I can’t complete it all,
Here’s what I’ll have to do.

I’ll set myself free from stress-
more time I’ll have to borrow.
I’ll reschedule today’s events-
“Thank God for tomorrow.”

P.S. I’m going to stop procrastinating-
(Once I get around to it.)

Beloved Mortal

My Take

DiVoran Lites

Author, Poet and Artist

I call you beloved. Dear you are mine.

I love you. I need you. You are so fine.

I call you mortal ‘cause human you are.

Each time you follow, I send you a star.

Together we conquer sadness and pain.

When it’s all over, our bond will remain.

I’ll never leave or forsake you, that’s sure.

For all your troubles, dear, I have the cure.

Look for my tangible work in your world.

Inside your soul flies my spirit unfurled.

So, Why Should I Be Thankful?

From My Heart

Louise Gibson

A thankful heart causes us to look upward.

It causes us to look around,

and causes us to look within

where the peace of God is found.

The number one secret to happiness

is a grateful heart.

Beginning our day with a prayer of gratitude

brings tranquility from the start.

Fear is the father of failure-

a negative emotion, to be sure.

Replace it with a positive thought-

Failure you will no longer endure.

Quote:

When we choose not to focus on what is missing

from our lives, but are grateful for the abundance

that is present-  we experience heaven on earth.

The Army of the Kind

If you have compassion for the homeless,
and charity is on your mind-
You are enrolled in God's army,
called "The Army of the Kind".

To an animal lover
a homeless animal is a cause of great concern.
All animals need our loving care,
our affection they want to earn.

At the moment, I feel like a recruiter-
Won't you please "step up to the plate?"
Do your best to fill a need, my friend,
before it is too late.

Join the army of people who care-
Open your heart to the homeless everywhere.
A kitten's purr will touch your soul
Let rescuing God's creatures be your goal.

             Animal facts:
Cats have overtaken dogs as the Number One pet in
the United States.

Cats do a better job of lowering stress and blood pressure-and purring may have a lot to do with that.
All from a simple stroke of a feline fur.

What a Friend

14 Nov

What a FriendLast Sunday one of our hymns was What a friend. Out of curiosity (I have a lot of that) I looked to see when this beautiful poem was written and who was the author. Fortunately our church uses an older hymnal which has the information at the bottom of the song. What a Friend was written in 1855 by Joseph Scriven. Apparently the longing for friendship and comfort is not new to mankind. The song has three stanzas and I would love to share them with you. I am taking the words from a Broadman Hymnal that was used in my church when I was a very young child. It is so old there is no copyright/publication page.

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer.
How those words speak to my heart! Someone wants to bear my
pain.
O what peace we often forfeit
O what needles pain WE bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
How silly am I when I choose to wallow in my pain when I
have friend who will bear it for me!
Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged.
Take it to the Lord in Prayer.
So many times have I felt discouraged. Who hasn't known
the utter exhaustion of raising a family, trying to meet
everyone's needs and no one meeting our needs.
Can we find a friend so faithful?
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness.
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Have you been at the end of yourself, longing to share your
 heartache with someone? I have.
Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

This brings to mind a modern song, Strong Tower by Kutlass

“You are my strong tower. Fortress when I’m weak”

What a blessing to know that my friend will be strong for me,
 and be my refuge.

Do your friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in Prayer.
His arms he'll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.

My friend, DiVoran once shared with me her personal picture of a grandfatherly God who would take her upon his lap, wrap his arms around her and just rock and love her. That has always stayed with me and often when praying for someone I ask for them to know  that blessed feeling of being wrapped in God’s arms of love.
