What’s the difference?

There is little difference in people,
but that little difference makes a
big difference.
That little difference is attitude,
The big difference is whether it is
positive or negative.

Robert Collier

Change your perception of what
age looks like.
How you are going to age is up to you.
It is not based on a calendar page.
It all depends on your point of view.

Don’t let your age put you in a box.
There is a part of you that is eternal.
Give free reign to your imagination.
It may even help to keep a journal.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself.
It is simply thinking of yourself less.
It will contribute to your peace of mind,
which ultimately brings you happiness.

The Key to Happiness Is Not in Someone Else’s Pocket

We can’t control all the circumstances in life,
But we can control how we react.
An attitude of optimism lightens the load.
That truly is a fact.

Negativity is heavy,
like a backpack we should remove.
When we work on our attitude,
our whole demeanor will improve.

There is something more to life
than what we can see.
Who we really are
Is our true identity

Comparisons-helpful or damaging

When we compare, we want to be the best or have the best.
The paradox of “fit in and stand out”.
Comparison is the thief of happiness.
Acceptance of our self and others is what life is all about.

Be kind to yourself.
Accept yourself for who and what you are.
It will relieve that inner strife.
In God’s eyes, you are already a star.

Take time for creativity.
It’s important to your well being, don’t you see.
Is achieving and competing truly deserving
of all your attention and energy?

Have you made achieving too important
and creativity as no longer of value?
Re-think your priorities, be kind to yourself
You will be a much more contented You.

Kitten Bath

My Take

Our small kitten, Muffy
Sat, busy, in her place
Licking both her front paws
And cleaning off her face.

She didn’t take a bath
The way we people do;
But stayed as shiny clean
As most folks try to do.

She licks with her rough, pink tongue,
Runs it over her soft fur.
It makes her fell so perky
That she starts right in to purr.

The Art of Stillness

Nature has a voice-
Just listen—truly listen!
But to truly listen,
You must be still.

Stillness is important to your life.
It will set you free from tension,
and will set you free from strife.

A farmer remarked he never looked up
until his barn burned down.
He was amazed by the beauty of nature
when he finally looked around.

Treasure your “alone time”
That is when you plan and reason.
Get in tune with God and nature,
regardless of the season.

If you love cats you will love this

It is no secret that I love cats,
but not everyone shares my point of view.
I ran across this story today
That I would like to share with you.

A man absolutely hated his wife’s cat
and decided to get rid of him one day.
He drove him 20 blocks from hom
and left him at the park.
But when he returned home
the cat was walking up the driveway.

He kept taking the cat further and further,
but the cat would always beat him home.
At last he decided to outsmart the cat
by putting him to confusion. (Ha!)

(Note: Poor man! He doesn’t yet know you
can’t outsmart a cat. : – )

He drove a few miles away, turned right, then left,
past the bridge, then right again, and another right
until he reached what he thought was a safe distance from his home
and left the cat there.

Hours later the man called home to his wife. “Jen, is the cat there?”
“Yes, the wife answered, Why do you ask?”
Frustrated, the man answered ,”Put the little &%&# on the phone,,
I’m lost and need directions.”

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is being aware of the moment.

Listen to your heart.

Your life matters-

Live it fully from the start.

Water the seed of optimism.

Have a love affair with life.

Think positive thoughts

and you will drive away the strife.

Cultivate awareness.

You’ll find you learn a lot.

If you are in the kitchen stirring the pot-

Be aware of stirring the pot!

How will being mindful

help you deal with your pain?

Being aware of God’s presence

will bring peace to your heart again.

Sonya’s Ferret

My Take

DiVoran White Ferret

Me:
What is this creature here?
An ermine–Could it be?
He’s Snowflake, a ferret.
He’s looking now at me.

Sonya:
Stoop down there and pet him.
I wash him in the sink.
He gets a lot of baths,
So he will never stink.

Me:
Oh, but will he hurt me?
My hand goes to the floor.
He rushes it to tease,
But, I start for the door.

Sonya:
He never wants to play
With people who come here.
Do not be alarmed now,
He thinks you are a dear.

Me:
Oh, I am so honored.
I’m starting to unbend.
I never really thought
I’d have a ferret friend.

IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU!

I discovered something this week in dealing with my grief over losing my sweet little animal friends to such a painful death. I had accepted it with my head, but little things kept popping up all week that tore at my heartstrings.

Pepper, a sweet little black and while, always met me in the driveway when I came home from shopping. She knew that I had cat treats in my shopping bags that I would reward her with. There was such a void in my life this week it was painful. The irony of it is evidenced in my poem this week.

God loves you because of who God is,
Not because of anything you did, or didn’t do.
He has given me such a peace this week
that surpasses all I ever knew.

Life does present its challenges,
Of this we are all aware.
But the Lord is there throughout it all
to comfort through our despair.

Seeing past the pain of the present
is a recommended state of mind..
God lifts us up above our circumstances,
and gives us vision of a special kind.

Are you going through a rough place?
Don’t give up in despair.
Look to Him who created you.
His presence is always there.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication,

with thanksgiving, let your request be known unto God,

and the peace that passes all understanding will keep your heart

and mind in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”  Philippians 4:6

Animal Attraction

Sonya likes the furry pets,

But her brother is away,

So she cares for lizards,

Feeds and waters them each day.

Her brother has a snake, too.

She feeds him two live mice.

She thought she wouldn’t do it,

But she only thought it twice.

The furry ones are furry,

The cat and ferret too.

She has a tiny hamster

It’s called a berry blue.

She writes her brother often

And sends money for the phone.

She doesn’t want her bro to feel

As if he’s all alone.
