A Servant’s Heart

25 Dec

Louise Gibson posted this last year at Christmas. This year, she is having some health issues, so I am reposting this lovely poem for Christmas~Onisha

All of us here on Old Things R New wish you a very happy Christmas, spent with people you love, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.

The true spirit of Christmas is one of giving.

To give of yourself is the greatest gift of all.

To follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

we learn to develop a servant’s heart

in answer to our Savior’s call.

Jesus welcomes, “Come, follow Me.

I will make you a fisher of men,”

“Oh, yes, dear Lord, I want to follow you.

Life on earth is not he end!

The three Marys who served

The three most prominent women in the gospels

were all named Mary. The first was Mary of Nazareth.

God chose her to raise Jesus because of her servant’s

heart.

“For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;

for behold, “henceforth, all generations will call me blessed,”

The second was Mary of Bethany. She was His student.

Whenever she appeared in the gospels, she was at

the feet of Jesus.

The third was Mary of Magdala. Though successful in

business, she had deep spiritual needs in her life.

Jesus freed her from demons, saved her, and she

became His zealous supporter. She supported His

ministry from her own resources, according to Luke 8:1-3.

God Never Says “O-O-O-PS”

That’s a theological truth in disguise.

God is a Master of Perfection.

His truths stand to confuse the thinking of the wise.

Every moment we feel overwhelmed by problems,

God is busy dealing with them, dear friend.

Every time we despair over the lack of God’s presence,

Remember, He promised to abide to the end.

The Bible has been written for people

who are living in the land of the living-

It is so much more than “pie in the sky

in the sweet by and by”.

The Bible is written for the tough realities of life,

the nitty grittry of the here and now.

Its pages are filled with real life solutions

to relieve our strife and our sigh!

“There has to be a song-

to make our burdens bearable,

to make our hopes believable,

to transform our successes into praise.

to release the chains of past defeats.

Somewhere- down deep in a forgotten corner

of each man’s heart-

There has to be a song,”

Robert Benson

“At times when we feel forsaken, may we know

the presence of the Holy Spirit who brings comfort

to all human hearts when we re willing to surrender

ourselves.  May we be convinced that soon before

we reach up to Thee, Thou art reaching down to us.”

Peter Marshall

So, Why Should I be Thankful

From the Heart

A thankful heart causes us to look upward.
It causes us to look around,
and causes us to look within
where the peace of God is found.

The number one secret to happiness
is a grateful heart.
Beginning our day with a prayer of gratitude
brings tranquility from the start.

Fear is the father of failure-
a negative emotion, to be sure.
Replace it with a positive thought.
Failure you will no longer endure.

“When we choose not to focus on
what is missing from our life,
but are grateful for the abundance that
is present, we experience Heaven on earth.”

Super Glue

To me, love is the super glue
that bonds people together.
It’s a bond that doesn’t weaken,
regardless of the weather.

In a more practical sense,
the strongest glue in the world is not found in a store.
Dive into the ocean, instead-
and explore the ocean floor.

Barnacles and mussels fasten themselves to
boats, piers, and rocks.

FACTS:
Many shellfish secrete a protein that allows them
to firmly cling to any surface, even in salt water.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology are currently studying shellfish in an
attempt to develop a stronger kind of waterproof glue
that can be used in ship repairs and even with
surgical incisions.

For an even stronger kind of glue, dive into the Bible
and study the subject of love. The apostle Paul said
that nothing can separate us from God’s love and that God
has shed abroad His love in our hearts Romans 8:39.
According to Colossians 2:2 our hearts are “knit together
in love”,

Be the Message

27 Mar

From my Heart

Stop comparing yourself with others.

God created only one of you.

He fashioned you in your mother’s womb

so you would have your own point of view.

When you compare yourself with others

it shrinks your very soul.

You don’t need status symbols.

In Christ you are made whole.

Suffering comes to everyone.

God wants to conform us to the image of His own dear Son.

Nothing worthwhile is easy, my friend,

But the battle has already been won.

“Let us keep fresh in our minds

all the tender mercies God has shown us,

Think of the tears He has wiped away

and the pain He has helped us bear.”

Broken, But Beautiful

Have you ever seen a collection of sea glass,

also known as beach glass? The varied bits of

colored glass are sometimes pieces of pottery,

but often are pieces of shattered glass bottles.

Originally the glass had a purpose, but then,it

was casually thrown away and became broken.

Our lives are like that. Unexpected events

present challenges, often taxing our emotions

or causing physical pain or injury.

The Great Creator is always busy molding

our character.  He truly wants the best for you and me.

He introduces challenges to prepare us for eternity.

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.

Only through experiences of trial and suffering

can the soul be strengthened., vision cleared,

ambition inspired and success achieved.”

Helen Keller

Two Are Better Than One

26 Dec

From my Heart

People need people.

It was imbedded in our soul..

Make reaching out to others

your foremost God-given role.

So simple, so painfully simple.

Two are better than one.

Two are more effective,

and,oh, so much more fun.

Friendships blossom over shared labor.

And we accomplish much more that way.

Open your heart to another.

See how it brightens your day.

Kittens & Puppies together

Two are better than one for walking.

For if they fall, one will lift up his companion.

But woe to him who is alone when he falls,

for he has no one to help him up. Ecclesiastes 4:20

Two are better than one for working.

Two are better than one, because they have a good

reward for their labor.Ecclesiastes 4:9

Life is Just a Minute

From my Heart

Just a tiny  little minute,

but eternity is in it..

The Great Creator.

the Great “I Am”,

knows exclusively

who I am.

Dear Lord, You are our reason for living.

You have put purpose in our life-

The desire for loving and giving.

Help us to maximize our morning,

to have a standing appointment with you.

Lead us into paths of righteousness,

so that to ourselves we will always be true.

There is power in plodding.

Work persistently in small increments.

As we age, to yourself be kinder.

There will be less cause for laments.

“Do not have your concert first,

and then string your instruments afterwards.

Begin the day with the word of God and prayer,

and get first of all into harmony with Him,”
