What is this creature

That I see?

He is a ferret

Looking up at me.

Sonya:

“Stoop down and pet him,

I wash him in the sink.

He gets lots of baths,

So he will never stink.”

Me:

“Oh, but will he hurt me?

I bend down to the floor

He rushes me to tease,

But, I’m looking at the door.”

Sonya:

“He never wants to play

With people who come here.

Don’t be alarmed,

He thinks you are a dear.”

Me:

“Oh, I am so honored.

I’m starting to unbend.

I never really thought

I’d have a ferret for a friend.”

DiVoran has been writing for most of her life. Her first attempt at a story was when she was seven years old and her mother got a new typewriter. DiVoran got to use it and when her dad saw her writing he asked what she was writing about. DiVoran answered that she was writing the story of her life. Her dad’s only comment was, “Well, it’s going to be a very short story.” After most of a lifetime of writing and helping other writers, DiVoran finally launched her own dream which was to write a novel of her own. She now has her Florida Springs trilogy and her novel, a Christian Western Romance, Go West available on Amazon. When speaking about her road to publication, she gives thanks to the Lord for all the people who helped her grow and learn.  She says, “I could never have done it by myself, but when I got going everything fell beautifully into place, and I was glad I had started on my dream.”

Questions for God

Oh, wholesome, healthy watching one.

How did you make the morning sun?

How did you make the sea so deep?

Why do I have to eat and sleep?

When will I get to have my way?

Oh, I see, from you each day.

But can I trust that you will care?

And someday lift me into air?

Will you guide me ever new?

Will you tell me what to do?

You have my best down in your heart

And you and I will never part.

With Love,

DiVoran

The Image of God

My Take

Yes, I was born in sin,

But forgiven, created in

The image of God.

Torn from the sod,

But made like Him.

God is good.

With Him, I can

Be good as well,

Let us dwell

In grace and mercy.

God is love,

Peaceful dove.

Holy Spirit fruit I am,

His precious lamb,

God is wise

In His eyes

I will have discernment

Covered over in His raiment

Divine interventions.

God is giving,

Exults in living

Superabundance

Overwhelming wondering

Omnicreative God

God is light,

Brilliant sight,

Knowledge, understanding,

All together banding,

In His Illumination.

God is bread; He’s the head

Showing always favor

Live in it to savor

Spirit fed in love.

Raining from above.

Living Being

Early morning on the porch.

Steaming coffee in blue Corelle.

Tiny black ant scurrying over the table cloth

Squash or don’t squash.

I look up again.

He has made it over a white paper.

He hesitates, wiggling feelers to measure

The step-down.

Without thinking, I squash.

Oh, no, my heart cries.

So quick.

He’s gone.

A kindred sentient being.

Who would have rather lived on.

There will be mourning back at

The anthill. And who will do his job?

1 Peter 3:8

Finally, all of you should agree and have concern and love for each other. You should also be kind and humble.

Sacred Rhythms, Arranging our Lives for Spiritual Transformation

Word for Word, November 23, 2020

“One can begin one’s (spiritual) quest by attending to the desires of the heart, both personal and communal. The Spirit is revealed in our genuine hopes for ourselves and for the world. How brightly burns the flame of desire for a love affair with God, other people, the world? Do we know that to desire and seek God is a choice that is always available to us? “

Elizabeth Dreyer as quoted in Spiritual Rhythms, by Ruth Haley Barton

“Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:2

The Storms of Life

Dear Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,

We are your beloved children from now and through eternity

Your loving care is an umbrella to keep our spirits up.

You empower us to follow your lead.

You are Divine Encourager,

Comforter,

Spirit of God.

Thank you for the delightful times you give us.

Thank you for always listening and always answering.

You hydrate our souls

While you protect us through the storms of life.

Waiting for the Library to Open

7 Jan

My Take

DiVoran Lites

Nerds of the World Unite.

At eight fifty in the morning

Before the Library Opens

People gather silently, one by one,

 To stand and wait:

Man in tee-shirt, woman in pony tail,

Care giver in scrubs,

 Grandfather and child.

Let us ring around the rosy and be merry,

“Here we stand like birds in the wilderness,

Waiting for our food.”

Hear, Here

16 Sep

My Take

DiVoran Lites

Let me sit on my porch

In the morning

In a town where true friends live

Let me hear the call of the freight train.

And a neighbor rooster who crows.

And thinks he is always king.

I hear an airplane

Droning West.

I see the birds

In our backyard

Flying, flittering landing,

Taking off.

Taking baths

Chirping from a

A telephone wire

The mocking bird and the blue jay

Steal one another’s calls

And Sand Hill Cranes fly south.

By DiVoran and Thea

DiVoran

When I put down my pen to scratch Thea’s ears.

I’m available.

When I wake up and pet her down at the end of the bed,

I’m available.

When I carry her in my arms on a tour of the house,

I’m available.

When I get out her play mouse on a long, soft line

I’m available.

When I hide treats in the folds of her soft red blanket,

I’m available.

Thea

When the back porch needs to be protected

I’m available.

When I offer her my ears to stroke,

I’m available.

When she needs to be awakened from a big bad dream,

I’m available.

When she needs purring to remember that that life is good,

I’m available.

When she needs the light of my bright yellow eyes,

I’m available.
