Thirty Poems in Thirty Days

April, Poetry Month

I write poems because:

By DiVoran Lites

When I can’t sleep, I’m full of poems,

That must spill onto the page.

A poetry purge is healthy,

Much better than a rage

Thirty Poems in Thirty Days

Truly a delight

One last Poem to say goodbye

And start our May off right

Morning Nap

By DiVoran

 Morning nap after early rising;

A joy and a delight.

Bits of sun come through the blinds,

But eyelids veil my sight.

My thermal blanket white and soft

Like sleeping with a cloud.

I play the IPod “Baby Sleep,”

But quietly, not loud.

Love Encounter,

By DiVoran

Sun-haloed girl-child sits

Near chain-link fence.

Big, fluffy cat slides.

Between her and fence

A small hand comes out to pet

Cat falls down in old leaves

Belly up so she can reach white-fur.

Whatever Happened to the Easter Ducklings?

By DiVoran

They’re abiding on Sandra Drive.

At the mini-pond to stay alive.

Several weeks old, so this is spring

They waddle and everything

Been indoors for most of this time

now in front yard where sun does shine

When Mother comes out with her boy

Ducklings run to them peeping of joy

looking soft and downy white

Like flannel sheets on coldish night

Their wings are stubs, their feet yellow,

She’s a girl, he’s a fellow

Someday says the mom, so fond,

They may need a bigger pond.

But for now, they’ll surely stay

Until they up and fly away.

A Poem for Sunday

By DiVoran

For this day, this one

And only golden day

When sun shines down

And dolphins play

When life and love

Are on their way.

Let us be thankful.

It Matters to God

By DiVoran

All those love words you spoke,

Every time you told a good joke,

When you went to all that trouble,

Washing dishes, clearing rubble,

All the happy singing days,

Praising Him in all your ways,

Any time you’ve been a friend,

It all matters in the end.

Going Bonkers

Frustration has a purpose.

It can be good for me.

What purpose it may have.

I will wait, and pray, and see.

Eraser

By DiVoran

I love an eraser.

Jesus loves them too.

He erased our sins for us.

A loving thing to do.

Shells

By DiVoran

The queen’s jewels

Washed up by waves

That shush against the shore.

Dragonfly

Back-pedal- fly, hover,

Land on pond stalk,

Facing silence.

Gentle Rain

By DiVoran

Raindrops drip from pines.

Tambourines jingle on tin roof.

A bird huddles in cardinal wings.

Understanding Poetry

By DiVoran

Poetry can be hard.

Poetry can be fun.

Poetry can be miraculous.

Why walk, when we can run?

Learning and Practicing

By DiVoran

Every time you work at something

A muscle grows much stronger,

If you get too tired to do it,

Work a little longer.

A Poem for Friday
By DiVoran
Writing Poems
Writing poems is a joy.
For a girl or a boy.

Sound, Light, Word, God divine.
Once you write one, it’s thine.

Do I have a poem today?
I don’t know, I really can’t say.

Anthologies, Haiku and Frost
But one book of poetry lost.

I hope I’ll find it some way.
And that the others will stay.

Poems and Boys

By DiVoran

Poems are like boys,

When you love them you can’t stop.

Sometimes they are so active.

They make you want to pop.

Boys don’t come in all one size

And neither are so the poems.

But both need lots of exercise

And loving graceful homes

Musings from Friends

By DiVoran

“At fifteen pounds under my normal weight I look like a little girl dressing up in my mother’s clothes.”

We’re in such a drought that the Arkansas River is mostly boulders right now.”

“David leaves for Argentina Wednesday.”

“I bought five books on sale at the SPCA for a dollar.”

“Thanks for sending my boyfriend a birthday card.”

“You have scrub-jays in your back yard because of the controlled burns in the woods behind your house.”

“I have two monitors: I’m the king of productivity.”

“Love you, Mom, see you soon.”

“The Love Affair”

By DiVoran

We’re eating lunch on the porch and Bill hears an airplane.

B. “That’s a B-25.” He hurries to the screen door.

“No, it’s a C-47. He pauses, and then goes out to stare into the sky.”

D. “How could you tell?” I ask when he comes back.

B. “The B-25 has a kind of clatter, the C-47 hums.”

B. “The DC-3 is a good airplane,” he says, keeping his favorite conversation going.

D. “They came after the Ford Tri-Motor, didn’t they?” It was all I could think of to say, but Bingo, I got it right!

He nods, unimpressed.

D. “TWA had them,” I try again.

B. “All the airlines did, Buffalo still flies them.”

         He tilts his head, listening.

D. “What do you hear now?”

B. “Not sure, better go see.” He’s out the door again looking at the sky. No one loves airplanes like my guy (and a few thousand others.)

Plenty of Time

DiVoran Lites

I have time to stroke a cat,

Sketch a horse’s nose,

Buy a hat,

Write a poem,

Soothe a child.

Offer help,

Slow down,

Pay attention,

Organize.

Thank you, Lord.

Bare Mattress

Poetry for Children

By DiVoran

Mom said that I must make my bed.

But, Mom, I said, “I don’t like sheets.

Why can’t I sleep on the mattress?

With my shoes on my bare feets? “

A Horse’s Ear

Children’s Poetry

By DiVoran

I drew Thunder’s ear today.

It wasn’t very hard.

Granddad loves his horses.

Granddad calls me pard.

 Pard is short for partner

That’s what I am to him.

I call Granddad partner too,

His old friend calls him Slim.

 Hang Glide

By DiVoran

 Strap yourself in

Jump off the cliff,

Don’t bump your chin.

God’s in control,

Guide yourself down,

Skies of bright blue.

You cannot drown.

Fluffy white clouds

Waiting for you.

Attention Please

By DiVoran

Lily lies upon the clothes

For today that I will wear.

She’s meowing for attention

And getting into my hair.

Jasmine puts a white fur paw

On the bottom of my chair

And taps me with the other

Two times tapping just and fair.

The Good Things of Life

By DiVoran

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Not houses and lands,

Not oceans of blue and

Running through sands,

The good things in life

Are ours for this day,

When the gifts of the

Spirit come in to play.

A Poem for Monday
By DiVoran
God bless us all and fill our needs.
Where e’r we go, let us sow seeds,
And, with your favor, fill our place.
of consciousness, of love, and grace.

Up From the Grave

By DiVoran

Marcia’s voice came joyously over the phone and landed in my ear.

“Jesus save!”

He save us from our sorrow.

He saves us from our raves.

He saves us from our sickness.

He saves us from our craves.

He saves us from our hells.

He saves us from our graves.

 Wind and Surf

By DiVoran

From the tossing tree sha-woosh-a sound of wind

Leaves dance and a yellow one falls

Then all is still and silent

Soon again sha-woosh another leaf falls

then ssh

like pulsing surf

Dragonfly?

By DiVoran

Not a name for a shimmer of glimmer

That shines in the sun, til the summer is done

Could we say: Catcher of Light, or Paean of Flight

Could we say Rose of the Air or Midsummer Faire?

Mother’s Stories

By DiVoran

We loved Mother’s stories,

We got to play a part,

We only gave her three words,

But Mother gave her heart.

April 3, 2013

Arias

By DiVoran

Mocking birds know every song

Of cardinal, jay, and dove

They sing them from the tops of trees

Distributing God’s love.

The Cat

By DiVoran

Went to the vet for a shot for the cat.

Her skin is so itchy; she doesn’t like that

It’s red and she losing her pretty gray fur.

Not every cat has a problem like her.
